The Cinderella Project

I realized over a year ago that some girls were not going to prom because they could not afford a dress. I thought how sad that was and wanted to do something to help. So I gave a photo credit to every senior photographed who donated a slightly worn prom dress. I called it Lisa’s Closet. I ended up with a closet full of dresses. I realized very soon that I did not have the resources to find recipients for all of the dresses. And that is when I heard about The Cinderella Project.

A few weeks ago they were featured in the St. Louis Post Dispatch and KSDK. I knew I found a home for my closet full of beautiful prom dresses. I met with Diane Wolferding from The Cinderella Project. She explained to me how each girl in need of a dress gets a VIP invitation to shop for a prom dress. They are treated like royalty when shopping. Many hair salons have donated their resources to provide hair and makeup for the VIP for the night of the prom.

The Metro St. Louis Cinderella Project is an event sponsored by the Community Council of St. Charles County. Promoting confidence and self esteem in junior and senior high school women. The young women are referred to the Community Council by high school counselors. Over 40 high schools in the metro area were invited and over 150 girls participated in 2011!

We will be continuing to collect slightly worn and never been worn prom dresses that need a new home. So when your come in for your senior photos bring one in. Or if you are cleaning out your closet and find that you have a prom dress to donate just drop it by.
